Description
Rolex Pre-Daytona 6238
The reference number 6238 shows that Rolex had already got it right with its chronographs before Daytona.
While it may not have come with contrasting sub-registers yet, its silver dial is stunning.
FULL STORY
The 6238 is considered a reference before the legendary Rolex Daytona.
Most of the aesthetic codes have already been established, starting with the Oyster case and pump buttons. They are already powered by Valjoux 72 with mechanical winding.
The main difference is the internal tachymeter. On subsequent Rolex Daytonas, it was already displayed on the lunette.
This phenomenon is actually quite rare, as it is estimated that only about 2,000 (a relatively low number for Rolex production) of these models were produced during the 1960s.
Of these 2,000 pieces, most have not survived.
Which makes any preserved piece very rare.
Rolex Daytona lovers might take offense, but this 6238 piece may be one of the most elegant chronometers Rolex has ever made.
