The Tourbillon was developed around 1795 and patented by the French-Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet on 26 June 1801.
In a tourbillon, the escape and balance wheel are mounted in a rotating cage to negate the effects of gravity when the watch ( i.e. the escape) is stuck in a particular position.
