Description
Chopard was founded by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in 1860 and began life as a watchmaker.
In 1937, however, Chopard moved its watchmaking business from Jura, Switzerland, to Geneva. The family business, run by the third generation, was in trouble, and they were looking for a suitable buyer.
The Chopard business was handed over to Karl Scheufele III.
Karl Scheufele III shared Chopard's love of creativity and watchmaking, so it seemed a natural choice.
Karl Scheufele I entered the jewellery industry at a young age and in his later years wanted to support artists and jewellers and devoted his time to the Association of Arts and Crafts in Pforzheim, Germany.
This culture of knowledge sharing and mentoring has stayed with Chopard and the company won the "Best Training Company" award in Geneva in 2008.
